Note Taking Tips: For Class + Personal Bible Study
I’ve always loved taking notes, from high school to trade school. Especially after learning different techniques to improve the process and the benefits of note taking. I’ve been asked to share the way I take notes for my 4 Chapters a day and classes (notes I take at church and/or online during the week), so here it is.
I BeLieve mindset Changes everything
The church I attend is totally different from the modern day prosperity/motivational based church. We learn about hidden history, current events, healthy marriages, structured families, all lined up with the scriptures. I like to treat it like what it is: a class. I say that to say, note taking is as fun as you make it. So, if you treat taking church/bible notes as a college lecture that you will soon have a test on, that alone will enhance how you take notes. From highlighting, organization, and detail to reviewing and rewriting.

Notes for classes
I typically use Cornell notes as a base for my class notes (if you’re unfamiliar with Cornell notes click here). But essentially, I always write; the date in the right hand corner, the type of class (online, daily bread, sabbath, new moon, etc.) as a header in the left hand corner, and directly under as a subtitle I write the topic and the teacher. Then, I write the scriptures of the left side and my notes on the right side.
Heres an example of how it would look:

Notes for my 4 chapters
Jotting down details from my 4 chapters not only helps with retaining what I’m reading but also, it’s really nice to look back on what you took from a book after you complete it.
The main things I note while reading:
Important people
Scriptures that stuck out to me or scriptures I want to remember
Questions to ask my husband about
I picked a journal specifically for this purpose, so that it doesn’t get mixed up with other notes. But now I’ve switched to taking my 4 Chapter notes with the template down below.
If you’re a iPad note taker here’s a template I created just for you: click here (you can also print this out if you don’t have an iPad)
i hope this helps :)
